PART 1
PART 2
RESULT EFFECT
In this tutorial I go into something I had a play with recently, which is using mograph’s modynamics along with Cinema 4d’s in-built metaballs to get some nice liquidy looking stuff, as well as having it interact with other rigid bodies like text.
I split it into two parts for ease of rendering and making them slightly more digestible chunks. Let me know what you think.
Enjoy!
(oh and this tutorial’s intro song is Sam Cooke – Twistin’ the Night Away!)

This is a really cool tutorial. Thank You very much!!!
I have a question about one of your photos: how do you model the balloons? Is it the same technique? They are looking absolultey absolutely fantastic.
Greets.
Hello mate thanks glad you enjoyed it. The balloons are actually modelled since there’s no motion i just used a sphere primitive with a taper deformer if i remember right. All was composited together in photoshop with the photos i took and voila! Take care man good to have you on board.
K
Thanks mate!
Hope you make some more tutorials about cinema 4d.
Stay tuned.

Thanks a bunch for this. Very usefull. Well explained and I allready use this technique to do somwthing. Thanks again for the tutorial Kieran!

Hey man good tutorial, it’s good to see more people doing C4D tutorials. can’t wait for more!
Mr. Professor, I am stuck on the part with the metaball, everytime I baked the cloner object and drag it into the metaball instead of something, I get nothing. On closer observation if I zoom in really close, I can see one or two sphere moving! This is very haunting please help.
Hi there yeah that’s strange, without seeing your file i can’t really tell but i would say try playing with the metaball hull value see if that helps at all.
Kieran
I tried your suggestion setting the hull value to 1% I get the most basic 4 sided polygon shape, it seem to be resizing as the playhead play. It grows and shrinks. Am I doomed?
I have uploaded my files ( http://www.botwares.com/tutorials/ ) Please tell me where I went wrong : (
Thanks for the tutorial. This was a really great intro to dynamics.
I noticed that C4D handles the dynamic text kind of strange. It randomly disappears sometimes. To avoid the part at the beginning where the letters are poking through the bubble I keyed the text to go from a scale of 0 to 1. I think this is making the letters disappear, although not immediately. It’s really finicky. but in theory making the scale 0>1 should work? I tried baking the text like the bubble but that didn’t help.
Hey really cool tutorial, I’ve been trying to do some similar stuff in Realflow but Cinema is much more user friendly, especially when one has not really powerful computer:)
Hey thanks, yeah i agree Realflow looks a bit less user friendly that Cinema but then again i thought Cinema was scary when I came from after effects! Try sticking with Realflow too it’s definitely worth it when you have more of a play.
Kieran
Useful tutorial, thanks a lot!
What about background? Can you tell about backgrounds, why background dont focus, and use for this video After Effect? I try get same background but useless…
Thanks.
Hi Ivan, the background is actually an image of concrete that i used and pasted into the colour channel. I then just applied that to plane. I used the depth of focus within Cinema 4D, which blurred out the background.
cheers
Kieran
can you tell me how did you make the material for the metaball?
Hi Andrey, the material has a fresnel reflection and light with an HDR sky so nothing too special. Hope that helps
thanks
Hi Kieren great tut.
I’m stuck when I apply the dynamics tag to the MoText (using c4Dv12). I realise this tut is using an earlier version, but how can I get the same effect?
If I turn the dynamic on, the text jumps about interacting with the effectors as you’d expect it to, but turn dynamic off and the spheres just travel through it without interacting with the text.
VERY COOL tutorials!!!
Hey Kieran,
Amazing tutorial, thanks a lot! Can you please tell me whats some of your sources for HDRIs? Im getting very confused with this, like where to get some good and trusty material to work with.
Hey, it should work the same between v11.5 and 12 I think. The trick with getting the text to look like it interacts is to bake in the animation of the spheres when the text comes out, putting a collider on the text object. Then when that’s all baked you can work on the text, by animating the the dynamics on only when it’s burst out of the sphere. So it’s kind of a two step process to cheat that in the way that i did it. Hope that helps.
Hey there, HDRI’s i’m using just random one’s i find really and just keep them in a folder. One i use a lot came with some Tim Clapham training i purchased quite a long time ago and i find it great to throw in there quickly to have a look at things.
